the nfl will announce today if san francisco is in the running to host a super bowl. >> reporter: we are not just talking about any super bowl. san francisco wants to host super bowl 50, a huge anniversary for the nfl that would include more than a week of events and celebrations. this is how this would work out. all the festivities would happen in san francisco. the actual game at the new 49ers stadium would be 40 miles down the road in santa clara. it's expected to open in 2014 and a stadium has to exist for two seasons to host the super bowl. san francisco is hoping to bid ant 2016 and 2017 games. the only super bowl in the bay area was in 1985 at stanford. the mayor submitted the application back in august and this is what's next. today nfl will announce which cities are in the running. if san francisco is one of them, it will host a plan on may 7th of next year. two weeks later the city will make a presentation to the 32 nfl owners. just to give you an idea, hosting a super bowl is expensive, about $25 million. san francisco wants to be part of the 50th and electricity reand say

untouched. the nfl recor time 108-yard kick gave the ravens the lead. the ravens are up eight. the touchdown reception. the cowboys went back for the two-point conversion to tie it. he was there but dropped the ball. the ravens still have the lead with 32 seconds left. the cowboys converted on the kick and set up a game-winning potential kick. white left from 51 yards. the ravens hang on to beat the cowboys 31-29. exhale and celebrate after the game. >> i told him stats do not win games. >> for the ravens fans, a huge weekend. they gave buck showalter a big round of applause before it started. sheldon dutes is outside the stadium. nothing baltimore fans needed more than another heart wrenching day. at least this one ends with smiles. >> a lot of people are very excited for the win to take them out of the slump from friday evening. the parking lots are clearing out. there are some die-hard post- game tailgaters with plenty of reason to celebrate. the parties continue well after the game and for good reason. the ravens walked away with the win over the dallas cowboys giving everyone

will san francisco get to host the super bowl in the near future? >> the nfl is expected to answer that question today. melissa harrington is live at the 49ers new stadium to explain. >> reporter: we are not just talking about any super bowl. they want to host super bowl 50, a huge event for the nfl including more than a week of celebration. all the festivities would happen in san francisco but the stadium 40 miles down the road would host the game. only one super bowl has been held in the bay area and that was in 1985 at stanford stadium. the mayor and 49ers have been quietly working on this bid and submitted an application in august. today the nfl is expected to announce which cities are in the run for the 2016 and 2020 super bowls. they will formally submit a host city plan on may 7th, then two weeks later the city makes a presentation to the 32 nfl owners. we still won't know for sure whether or not they will be a host city till later next year. at least today we'll know if they are in the running. >> thank you. the giants now face a deficit in the national league championship
